My Hero

Unit 1 has been all about heroes. We discussed Antoinette Tuff, President Obama, Martin Luther King, Rikki-tikki-tavi, and a host of other super heroes. Now it is your turn. Who is your hero and why? What characteristics does this person have that makes him or her a hero?

As a writing assignment, you encouraged to examine yourself and see what changes needed to be made in order for you to become a more productive member of society. You were also asked to come up with a detailed plan to ensure that your changes were made successfully. Share with your classmates some of your ideas on how to implement change.

GENEROSITY??

The word of the month for December is Generosity. Our team (701) has volunteered to post writings on what it means to be generous. Please blog about the many ways in which you try to be generous. How do you spread generosity in your community, neighborhood, and school? If you don't feel as though you have been as generous as should be, talk about things that you will start doing today.

The First

It is no accident that we are alive at this moment and time to experience America's first African-American President. History has been made. I am sure that many people including our ancestors never thought that this historical moment would happen any time soon. Barack Obama has shown people of all races and nationalities that you can achieve anything that you set your mind to. It is great to read about other great leaders who changed the face of America, but how does it feel to experience and live in the moment of greatness and achievement? What does having an African-American President, who broke across all racial lines, mean to you?

What are some things that you hope to achieve? What has Barack Obama inspired you to reach for. I want you to tell us about your dreams...the really big ones! The ones that people have told you would never come true. Also, I would like to know what things might stand in your way of accomplishing those dreams.

Wild Animals on the Loose!!

In recent news, an Ohio animal keeper took his own life. He released over 50 wild animals into the city before taking his own life. Lions, tigers, apes, bears and other dangerous animals ran all over the city causing panic to everyone who lived there. The animals were eventually killed and berried. Do you think that the city and the police handled this situation correctly? Should the animals have been killed for the saftey of the people or should they have tried to capture them and place them in the local zoo? What would you have wanted if you lived there?

Welcome Class of 2011-2012

This blog has been set up as a means for us to communicate about various topics, homework problems, book discussions, writing topics etc... I will try to add weekly post that will provoke you to think critically and allow you to communicate about the academic components of our class. We have been working on Narrative writing for the last few weeks. I have truly enjoyed the creative stories that you all have shared during our "My Time to Shine" sessions. What has been your favorite topic thus far? Which story are you most proud of and why?

It is time to say goodbye

Now that we have come to end of the road, it is time to say goodbye. Feel free to post positive comments or reflections of your 7th grade year.

As for me, this year has been wonderful. You all have been a great "first" class for me. You have made me feel so comfortable and welcomed at ECMA. I look forward to seeing you all represent as seniors of ECMA next year. Please remember all that you have learned and continue to grow and strive for excellence! I will miss you dearly :(
